23/02/09: We left Westport about 9 and headed along the coast road to a place called Cape Foulwind (haha). We all done a 1 hour coastal walk where we walked along the cliff and could look down onto seal colonies!! We drove further along the coast to Punakaiki, also known as the pancake rocks because the rocks are layered like pancakes, plus are blow holes there that spurt water! We had dinner in the cafe there before continuing on to Greymouth where we stopped briefly to go shopping for costumes! I decided to go as a boy and lil alex decided to go as batman! We got to lake Mahinipua about 3.30 and checked in- we put ourselves in a room with just the German girl again. The 3 of us walked to the lake- it was very beautiful- lil alex and lena jumped in off the jetty but it was too cold for me!! I just paddled. Then we walked 5 minutes in other direction to the beach which was equally nice- a long stretch with noone else on and very sandy- just littered with driftwood! Paddled there and then went back to the room. We was talking to Lena about our studies because she is trying to decide what to study at uni!! We went to dinner at 6.30- i had quiche, potatoes, coleslaw, vegetables, pasta salad and a bread roll- delicious!! Lil alex also had steak and a venison stew!! We got chatting to two guys from Denmark who were cool. After dinner lil alex went to the bar with them and i went to room with Lena- she was reading and asking everytime there was a word she didnt know- i felt like a teacher!! Then I helped her with her bodyguard costume cos she didnt know how to do up a tie- so i taught her!! Then me and lil alex got ready- I wore his footie shirt and baseball cap- poor effort really! But his costume was great- he cut up a black hat that covered his face so it had eye holes and the batman mouth, then he wore black with grey pants on top and a black bin liner cape!! We spent most the night sitting with the Danish guys and Lena in the bar!! They were really funny! Other people were dressed as bulimic barbie, bondage barbie, binging barbie and bad ass barbie! plus babies and balloon man and boxers and bums, etc. We stayed til about 12.30. There is a legendary 86 year old man who runs the pub- he was interesting. Plus lil alex bought me a greenstone necklace in a heart shape!
