After another dreadfully long 11 hour flight, we arrived in Fiji, just as the sun was rising, we had a wonder around the surrounds of our hostel which is a lovely 2 minutes walk from the beach. I can see how people easily get stuck in the Fiji lifestyle and don't ever leave, only been here a day and love being on 'Fiji Time' (as they call it), they very much have the 'no worries' mentality and are really easy going and lovely.
We did forget that when we was booking Fiji we decided to throw ourselves into the deep end and book a mixed 12 people dorm so we are sharing with other travellers, some are questionable characters and some are nice enough, it's good to talk about where people have been, to get tips on saving money and places to stay etc but chaps back home told me I'll soon get bored of the 'where you been, where you going' conversation. The workers here are really nice, they cut us fresh mangos from the trees and one of them sat down with us, got his blackboard and chalk and was teaching us Fijian, which was interesting, some words we'll use more then others.
We have booked to go to three other islands over the next 5 days to see what Fiji is really known for. Firstly we're going to Bounty Island, where 'celebrity island' used to be filmed then travel to Beechcomer, which is the party island apparently then onto Mana, which is a stones throw away from where the film Castaway was filmed so looking forward to getting on the jetty boats and proper backpacking for a bit. The sun is roasting hot, we'll enjoy a few days of dipping our toes in the white sand and clear waters.
Tonight, the hostel is having a 'fire party' where the workers have a bonfire and do performances. Us 3 are also having a welcoming ceremony to Fiji, which involves a local tradition of drinking 'cava' - which isn't the cheap bubbles I'm used to at home so that'll be interesting, then were heading to one of the bars in Nadi to watch the England vs Fiji Rugby Game which is guaranteed to be a good atmosphere. Obviously I managed to get wifi in my hostel but won't be back online until the 16th so will update you on the island adventures then.
Country number 2 and I can now call myself a traveller.
Would love to hear from some of you, if you have a moment, write me a message on the message thing somewhere on this page =s

Beatrice Parrish Alex: Richard, Alice and I loved to read your blog. Hope you have a great time island hopping and look forward to hearing from you when you get Wifi access again. Love to you all.
Deborah Lawson Hi Alex its Livys mum Debbie. I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying your blogs and even though Livy repeats everything a few days later, i still find it all fascinating, so well done and carry on. Breakfast would not be the same without my treat of sitting down and catching up will all your exploits and its damned annoying of the Fijians not to have wifi on all their islands. Look forward to next instalment and keep prodding Livy to update too, although I don't think it will be so often! All our best and safe wishes to you all xx
