Vang Vieng
This was a little town in the North of Laos, with the main atraction being Tubing. This involved getting a rubber ring and starting at the top of the river and floating down whilst being pulled into bars on the way down by a rope. The mission was to have a drink in all the bars whilst trying not to drown! (a bit like Otley run but in a river on tube) It was crazy dangerous but a lot of fun. By the time we got to the first bar everyone was well on their way rope swinging, mud football and human towers! The currents were strong but somehow we made it back alive.
Vang Veing wasnt all about the Tubing as it was set in beautiful surroundings. The river ran through the town with a small mountain range behind. We chose to do a tour to explore the natural beauty of the area and did tubing of a different sort this time. We trekked through sticky rice fields, reached a cave temple and visited a hill tribe village for a meal. We then got on our tubes again, put on the head torch lights floated into a small gap in the rock face and went caving. It was so dark and the water was so high in the cave but luckily we had a rope to guide our way through. It was an amazing experience.
To get back to Vang Vieng again we got into our Kayaks and rowed back through the rapids. Because it was monsoon season the flow of the river was strong and fast. Parts were like white water rafting. We were so close to falling in a few times.
