We stayed in Wellington for three nights. There wasn't much to do there to be honest, however its the first place you land in the North Island, and it is also the capital. We got the ferry ffrom Picton in the south, it took about three and a half hours. It was similar to going on a channel crossing, but the ferry was much smaller. We did go outside for a bit but it was very cold and windy so we didn't stay out long. It was a pretty boring journey.
IIn Wellington I had managed to get an absolute bargain of a room. We got a double room ensuite for less than we usually pay for two dorm beds. Hooray no stinky feet and snorers for a couple of nights (except for Alan ha ha)! They also gave a free meal every night, which was tiny but you could get a bigger portion and a wine for a couple of quid. As soon as we arrived we tucked into a bit plate of spag bol. Annoyingly we had forgotten our food bag and left the lot in Nelson, including a brand new car of Marmite. It was a bit of a calamity. Had a couple of cheap drinks in the bar before bed.
The next day we decided we might as well get out and do something in Wellington so we went to this massive free museum about kiwi history and culture called Te Papa. We spent quite a long time there as it was quite interesting but it was so big we got bored at around the 5th floor. Spent the rest of the day wandering about the town, doing a bit of internet and looking at places to go in the North Island. We enjoyed fish and chips for tea and a few glasses of wine in the bar, as it was buy one get one free. Alan was up feeling ill during the night so we didn't get too much sleep.
In the morning he still wasn't feeling too good so we decided to stay an extra night. Spent that day doing absolutely nothing, we had Sky movies in the room so that kept us pretty occupied, apart from the occasional dash out for food later in the day. I finally got to watch the Sex in the City movie that Alan said he would come and see with me at the cinema but he didn't, even though I went to see Transformers with him. We also watched Mamma Mia so it was a bit of a chick flick overload. Later on we went and booked bus and hostels for the next day, when we were moving on to Taupo further North. Grabbed our free meal in the bar but didn't stay too long. Ended up watchingmore tv before bed and that was it for Wellington.
Seeing as we did hardly anything we've got no photos to put in an album.
