Goodbye south island, hello north island! We took our camper on the 3.5 hour ferry ride from Picton over to New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. After some bad reversing skills onto the ferry by me and a good laugh all round from the irks an the crew, we hit the deck to enjoy the view and sunshine before heading down to the lounge for a chill.
Wellington is a much bigger city than anything we have experienced yet in New Zealand and that took us by surprise. Although, I'm not sure what we expected from a capital city! It is quite nice to feel we are back in real civilisation, but it also has made me want to get back out on the road to see what this island has to offer. The city itself is very nice set off the port and has numerous nice bars and restaurants. We are staying in a car park by the port, so it is strange to wake up and step out of the van in your pjs to be faced with rush hour traffic on one side, and the port on the other, but it is a good, central location for a cheap price with all the facilities we need. We plan to have a look around here before moving up to Taupo.
