Bula again. We must say this word 100 times a day, everyone here is very friendly! Since the last post the weather has started to improve. We have enjoyed some good bouts of sunshine in between the lighter rain showers. We have used the rainy times to just chill out, try and finish off our books and use the gym facilities and pool.
As the weather has improved and the cyclone warning dropped, the hotel has resumed all its facilities and activities.
At sunset one of the activities members of staff dresses up with the children as Fijian warriors with grass skirts and war paint all over them. They then conduct the torch lighting ceremony and walk around the grounds lighting all the gas torches shouting 'Bula!' like warriors. The kids look so cute in their outfits! The improved weather also meant we have been able to see some nice Fijian sunsets.
Good Friday brought a good day of sun, it is so hot now the stormy winds have died down which is a nice change. That evening we decided to eat out. There are five restaurants on the site, a fine dining restaurant on the sea front, an international buffet on the sea front, a pizza bar, an Asian cuisine restaurant and a restaurant where food is served in the pool. We chose to go to the buffet as it is the most reasonably priced and offered the biggest variety. As well as the buffet food they cook dishes to order and have a Brazilian BBQ which they bring around and carve off at your table. There was also live entertainment with music and some tribal dancing. The dancers did some good fire dancing before inviting us up to dance too. We ended up copying some ridiculous moves, learning a macarena-like dance, shouted 'bula' a lot and then had to do a solo dance to no ones amusement!
The weekend has been lovely with nice mornings and the rain catching up later on. We have enjoyed food and ice cream in the pool and well and truly relaxed.
Tonight is our last night in Fiji. Tomorrow we have to be at the airport at 5.45am to fly to Auckland. This is just the start of our big flight home. We have 36 hours in Auckland so are returning to Silverfern backpackers to spend the night before waiting the following day for our long long flight. We fly just before midnight to Singapore, wait a couple of hours there, then fly 13 hours to London, wait there then take our last flight up to Manchester.
So, this could well be my last blog post, from this side of the world anyway! Five months have gone by and we have successfully made our way around Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. The first stops in our trip now seem like distant memories as we adapted to the new culture, took some long and interesting modes of transport and enjoyed the low price of living. Next we travelled to Australia to see in the new year, do some work, meet a lot of new and nice people and partake in the exciting activities the country had to offer. Last month we moved on to the camping part of our trip in New Zealand which tested our organisational skills to get everything we wanted to do in, while taking in the variety and beauty that the country had to offer. Our last destination here in Fiji has seen us see a natural disaster first hand as we sat and waited through cyclone Daphne. In the last few days we have enjoyed some nice sunshine in the luxurious surroundings of the Radisson. Considering we were only meant to spend 2 nights here and we have actually spent 10, things haven't been too bad even though it wasn't the end to the trip we were expecting!
So, the big trip home is about to begin and we are not particularly excited by the idea of the long flights and waits but I'm sure seeing everyone we haven't seen for a while and our own beds will make up for it! All good things must come to an end and our adventure must follow this too. We have had an incredible five months seeing and doing everything we can in some fantastic places.
See you all very soon!
Over and out!
