Well we have been travelling for all of 3 days and have already had a number of ups and downs. The first leg of our travels was a massive train ride down to London, where we met up with Tim and a few of his friends for a few pints. Then we caught the tube to Brixton for our bed for the night out with Jamie and Emma (Sarah's friends from Glasgow). After a few drinks it was time for bed (including champagne!!!), as there was a big day ahead of us.
The first flight from Gatwick was uneventful, until we landed in Kaliningrad (Belarus) where the passport control women took a dislike first to Sarah (it took her 1/2 hour to get through) and then me (nearly the same amount of time). Then came the fiasco of the security checkpoint, where in a rush to getthrough I left my mobile phone in my pocket and set of all the x-ray alarms. To compound my misery they then claimed to have seen a knife in my bag and then searched it (to find nothing even remotely knife like). Whilst this humiliation was occuring Sarah had picked up the money belt and walked through to the main terminal. You can only imagine my panic, and I expect the humour, as I searched desperately and ran to Sarah to see it in her hands!!!!!
Anyway it's our second day in St Petersburg and so far i'm a little underwhelmed at it all, but tonight we are going to try and watch some ice hockey and tomorrow we are going to the hermitage so it is looking up. I'll let you know what it's like.
