Hello from Woomera. When William wakes this morning he joins us in the bed. Mark wants more sleep so hops into his bed. William wants to be with Mark but quick as a flash William agrees that it is ok for him to get in the bed but advises him to be careful as he thinks that he felt ants on his legs during the night!
The weather in Port Augusta isn't going to be great for the next few days so we decide not to stay.
We visit the Wadlata Outback Centre in Port Augusta which is a historical museum about outback life. From it we get a real appreciation of the harshness and reality of living in the outback. I find it a great introduction to the outback. The museum has lots of interactive displays and is very well done. William enjoys the museum and Emily sleeps. The photo is William peddling and talking on a school of the air radio.
We stock up on supplies (including drinking water which has a high mineral content all the way up the centre so needs to be purchased) and decide to drive for a couple of hours and stay at the Woomera campground.
We leave Port Augusta and drive for around 45 kms before we hit a bend in the road! On the drive we see a few emus, a few sheep but are still yet to spot a live kangaroo!
The Woomera campground is dusty, the signs are completely faded and things appear to be falling apart. Unsurprisingly things are not all good in our cabin. The front door doesn't shut completely, there is a hole in one internal door and we can't shut the bathroom door as the handle comes off. It is so wrong that you can't help but laugh! The one redeeming feature of this campground is that it has a bar which is in a small shipping container. Mark ventures over and there are 8 grey nomads in there and the bar is full so takeaway it is. $4 for a beer, pretty reasonable for this out of the way town!
We take a walk around Woomera which is small and quiet. We look at the outside displays at the rocket museum. We barely see a car or person and everything closed at 2. We return to the campsite for an early night.
