Arrived in Cusco at 5am, Leanne and I shared a taxi with a South African couple and booked into Atawkama hostel. This is a great place, so chilled and had a lovely living room area complete with big screen tv and a full set of counter-fit DVD's. Was great for relaxing. I was feeling a bit exhausted so spend the a day just taking it easy and walking around the town. We did a walking tour of the city which was more interesting in terms of getting to know different instruments and pisco sours then it was for historical information. We were so exhausted that we slept 15 hours straight one night. Leanne and I did horseback riding to some ruins including Temple de la Luna and Zona X. Was lovely to combine the freedom on the back of the horse and this vast mysterious visible parts of history.
Rona joined arrived from Arequipa the morning Leanne and I went Rock climbing at Satankay (beautiful archaeological sights around there too) as this was the day before the start of our Inka Trail trip. Our climbing guide was a local chap from Cusco who met us at our hostel and escorted us through all the public transport (a dilapidated car taxi and a minibus taxi) to get to the mountains where we had an hours walk to the mountain rock face we were to climb. It was my first time and was feeling rather ill with a stomach bug, but climbed the 3 difficulty levels single pitches and enjoyed it non the less.
