Hey from Khao Sok National Park.
Sorry I haven't been in touch for a little while…the new trip that we have joined is very hardcore in its itinerary.
Last time we wrote about the sinking boat…so we decided that we needed to go on one. We decided to do a tour of the canals in Bangkok for an hour which was very interesting. We saw big mansions next to tiny little huts. The highlight of the boat trip for Kirst was the little woman in her boat…selling her a cold diet coke. (with a straw!)
The trip was great, but how we managed to stay in the boat for an hour…im not too sure.
We met the new group on Saturday evening, and they seem very nice. Not quite as crazy as the last bunch but they are all similar to us in age and for most it is near the beginning of their trip also.
Sunday we boarded an overnight train for Khao Sok. The train journey was very different from the ones in china. Most noticeably- much hotter! The trains here have no air conditioning, and have fans instead, but the fans just blew around hot air. The bunks were much bigger and more comfortable than Chinese trains but in the thai ones…they leave the lights on. Making it difficult to sleep. Kirst only slept for an hour in total…making her grumpy the next day. Lee managed to sleep all night though…how annoying! Mind you he had a little help though…beer (and lots of it)
When we arrived Monday morning in Khao sok, we went straight for breakfast before our 2 hour transfer. We had nice western breakfast…which was great. I had bacon, scrambled egg and toast….lee had just toast. Our ride turned up for our transfer…a songthew. This is basically a pick up truck with benches in the back. This ride was bumpy but the most fantastic scenery as we made out way through the mountains, covered in jungle. To our place…The Morning Mist
The Morning Mist is the most incredible place… it is basically a few jungle huts and a tree house. That's it. The huts are where you stay and the tree house is a bar and restaurant. The way in which it works is that…they arrange a bunch of activities for you to do, such as elephant trekking and tubing and then you pay for it all at the end.
Yesterday we went tubing (Big rubber ring…long running river…simple as that!)We all hired big rubber rings and then spent two hours going along a river dodging trees and rocks. What value for money…it was amazing.
Today we got up early and went elephant trekking. WOW…what can I say about elephant trekking. It was the most surreal thing in the world. They were HUGE. So huge that we hit our heads several times in the trees. We trekked through grassland, through rubber plantations, through jungle, in rivers, went up hills, and down them. We even got off them and watched them bath in the waterfalls. When we got back to the sanctuary, we fed them with bananas. It was amazing!
Tonight we are off to a BBQ in a local bar, with jacket potatoes (never thought I would miss jacket potatoes)
Kirst is really starting to struggle with homesickness now…as it's a month tomorrow since we left!
We love and miss you all! X
Speak to you soon.
