Queenstown 1
After waving goodbye to Fiji and the sunshine, we landed in Auckland, again took full advantage of the air pacific free drink service, and had a few to many but I had run out of my pills! definitely need to get some more or I might be stuck out here forever! We didn't have a place to stay in Auckland so we slept rough in the airport lounge which was hell as people were shouting all night long and the gin had worn off! Mish was all tucked up in her sleeping bag and slept as usual! I didn't get a wink as I was scared about some one robbing our stuff.
The next morning we headed over to the domestic terminal to catch a flight to Queenstown. It was a class flight as I sat next to a pro snowboarder and talked about snowboarding for 1 hr and 40 mins. It turns out he knows some people I know in Canada very strange!! Flight was a bit bumpy and flying into Queenstown was so scary!!! I'm sure the pilot thought he was playing a video game, we were making the sharpest turns around the mountains and Mish though at one point the wing was going to collide into the mountain!! As it happens its a well dangerous landing and a few days after a plane couldn't touch down and had 3 failed landing attempts and people were being sick and crying and all sorts.
Seriously if that happened to us we would be catching some sort of ship to S. America.
Anyway enough about flying, as soon as we touched down our jaws dropped with the amazing scenery. Queenstown is a cute little town nestled in the mountains surrounded with huge lakes with snow capped mountains. We checked into a lush Comfort Inn as we needed to sleep due to the bad sleep in the airport, the room was lush 42 inch plasma, massive, it even had a kettle check us!
Then we got a facebook message from our mate Dom and Haz from back home and met up. It was so amazing to see familiar faces from home, they had come from S. Amercia so we shared travel stories over beers which was class, they were sleeping in a camper in 0 degrees so we invited them into our cozy digs as we felt sorry for them. That night, after a few drinking games the 4 of us headed out to check out the Queenstown nightlife. We had a pretty crazy one, class night my ribs hurt the next day from laughing so much, so weird seeing friends 11.000 miles away from where we last saw them. Me and mishee then flat and job hunted for a week pretty much, which wasn't that fun, but finally found a place and its lush, about 40 mins from town. We viewed 6 and this one was one of the cheapest but also the nicest by miles, so we will spend 3 months in luxury which we cant wait for, only 6 more days in this tiny hostel!
Queenstown in the place for us, snowboarding, bungy jumping, sky diving, massive canyon swings, wakeboarding, anything extreme basically!! Dom and Haz did the bungy jump 136 metres (2nd highest in the world)!! They were terrified and had nightmares the night before, fair play to them they jumped and they absolutely loved it, their videos are class. We will definitely do it at some point!
Apart from that me and the boys had 3 more class nights out and just hung out not doing a great deal but we did have the 3 best game of mini golf ever and played for starbuckss coffee so got a bit serious at times!
We move into our flat on the 20th, it is lush a 3 story very modern house with amazing views and all the mod cons its fully furnished as well and only 200 bucks a week, we have been looking at 300 ones and they have been no where near ad nice as this one its about a 40 minute walk away from town so we will be nice and fit as the hill is stupidly steep but worth it for the views! I'm going to have to head up the mountain soon for some snowboarding coz the snows melting fast and summer is coming, we didn't plan for it but the sun will be with us all round the world so lucky!
Tell you what even if you don't like extreme sports Queenstown is still worth a visit for its stupidly laid back lifestyle and its gorgeous back drop.
Me and the lads have partied pretty hard in Queenstown its a class night out and we had so many good laughs,we drank in their van before we went out to save some cash, haz overdid it one night in the van on the vodka as soon as we out outside he couldn't talk or walk he hit the deck pretty badly it was like it was slow motion he didn't even put his hands down to protect him self, we were well orried at the time but looking back on it its one of the funniest thing we got him so food piled him with water and tucked him up for the night and then me and Dom hit the Dance floor for the night!
Poor Mich. has had a horrible flu think it because we have been in hot weather for 5 months constantly and here it gets down to 3 or 4, it got so bad that we thought the swine had got her, but shes feeling much better now and is on the mend, also got my ass kicked on the tennis court by one of the best juniors in NZ not going to revel the score as its to embarrassing!! I had a horrible racket and the surface was different and I hadn't played for 5 months, but he will be going down very shortly! But I think there's a few hours going at the club so that will be class and the coaches are sound.
So might not be another blog for a while as we aren't going to be moving any where for a while but will keep you all updated on whats going on down under xxxx
