Last night I shared a room with eight rowdy, obnoxious men who kept calling me Avril. Talk about weird. I only got about 5 hours of sleep... I'm surprised I got any at all.
I had planned to blog about how peaceful my hostel was. The night before I felt like I had the entire gigantic hostel to myself. I finally got to do laundry and I got to watch TV.
The Book didn't lie: Keswick is gorgeous. (I never thought I'd say that..haha.) It's a bit cold and drizzly but it's nice for a change and it reminds me of Halifax. I walked partly around the lake in town yesterday...it's so beautiful with the thick fog and the mountains (the fells, I think they call them?) and all the sheep grazing.
Last night I went to see a play that was so incredible and moving and intense. It was a one-woman show about a woman from Africa who fled when her family was murdered and sought asylum in England only to be jailed and tortured for entering the country illegally. She played about 50 characters apparently, all with different accents, voices and mannerisms. It was really spectacular.
This morning I pulled a Bill Bryson and went to the Pencil Museum just so I could write about it. Haha. Apparently pencils were invented here in the 16th century. It was actually a little interesting. Hopefully my afternoon will be more riveting though... I'm off to tour the area around Keswick.
I just posted some pictures. Check them out!
