I haven't had much prolonged access to the internet, so this is my first time to blog except for Day 1 before Amanda arrived... which doesn't count. Right now I am sitting in the lobby of my hostel in Florence. It's really hippie/fair trade: I keep calling the people here "all love and peace". We had a long day of walking around Pisa and Florence, so we came back to the hostel early to relax. And the internet is free so here I am.
We've been having a good time. So much has happened that I feel like I've been here for weeks and weeks, but it hasn't even been two. We've already been to five countries. Here are some highlights:
Amsterdam: Crazy, crazy place. The first night we purged a bunch of our clothes and things because our backpacks were humungous. We stayed in two Christian hostels there that had God is Lord and Jesus painted on the walls. I cried at Anne Frank's house. The city is gorgeous with all the canals. The red light district and the coffee shops.... well, let's just say what happens in Amsterdam stays in Amsterdam. ;)
Paris: Lots and lots of sightseeing in Paris. We stayed with my friend Ana, who was so good to us. She gave up her own life for a couple of days to cater to ours. The last night we went to a cabaret show (similar to Moulin Rouge). The last morning we shipped clothes and stuff home because our bags were still WAY too heavy.
Barcelona: We didn't have enough time there, but we did see La Sagrada Familia, and ate tapas and paella. We also saw RADIOHEAD! I hadn't seen them in six years, and seeing them in Spain...incredible! But unfortunately a series of crappy events happened there, the worst one being that my wallet was stolen on the subway. Grrr. I'm mostly irritated with myself since I left my purse open because we were rushing to make it to the train. And I am always so careful! We thankfully made it to the train.
Nice: Nice was well... nice. Definitely my favourite place thus far. I got to practice my French, which started to get pretty 'good' by the end (I started getting back a lot of forgotten vocabulary). The first day we slept on the beach in Cannes and swam in the Mediterranean. The second day we did a tour of all the surrounding towns, including a trip to Monaco and Monte Carle. I loved loved loved it and didn't want to leave. Unfortunately also spent a lot of time and (Amanda's) money trying to figure out how to get new credit/bank cards.
Florence: I love it here. Just old art work and architecture... amazing. I can't believe it was almost 10 years ago that I was here on a school trip. Tomorrow we are off on a Chianti vineyard tour.
Well... people are breathing down my neck to use the computer. Ciao!
