So my next adventure took me all the way up to Brisbane. The reason - too see Jack Turner off who was heading to New Zealand for two years.
I flew up there with tiger airways which was a big mistake. I would recommend anyone not to fly with these, there terminal at Melbourne Tullamarine airport reminded me of something from Asia or a third world country. My flight was due to leave at 6.30pm along with two others from the same gate, I felt a home alone situation coming on, everything just semt poorly organised. Our flight ended up being delayed as originally the flight in was late, we were then about to board to just be turned around as there was a problem with the weather radar, so we had to get on a new plane from a new gate. Eventually we got on a new plane two hours later! It was all very poorly organised and communicated. But eventually I reached Jack in Brisbane.
I checked into the hostel which we all also had issues with. The hostel was supposed to be an 'award winning' hostel but for me it lacked identity and needed a severe spruce up. Some parts were trying to be very Mexican, others other things and the location of things didn't make any sense at all. Still it was only somewhere to ay our head at night. But if anyone is to stay in Melbourne I recommend staying at any of the hostels on Roma street rather than Bunk in Fortitude Valley.
That night we were all pretty tired, they had a productive day and I was shattered from packing and travelling, so we only had a few beers at the hostel and a local pub called R.G's. But it was good to catch up with my good friend Jack.
The next day I walked with Jack to the British embassy so he could pick up his temporary travelling document, like an idiot he had gone and lost his passport. We collected this and then noticed a pub over the road called the Pig & Whistle. It was a very nice little British style pub so we went n for a cheeky pint which ended up starting our day session. We had breakfast and then made our way round several pubs in the city and fortitude valley area. The highlights being, The Elephant and The Jubilee. We then made our way to R.G.'s for $3 burritos and $2 tacos! Great value for money and we made the most of it stuffing our faces with them. This however had a bad effect on the remainder of our drinking, it made me quite tired so I went for a nap while Jack and Jess packed. Upon waking up we only managed a farewell jug at the hostel, they had an early flight to catch and wanted to be up early and I was pretty tired from the days events, getting old I guess! I said my farewells and went to sleep to dream about taking Kylie Minogue on a date to watch an aboriginal play the didgeridoo, it was very weird.
Jack came to say goodbye in the morning at the unearthly hour of 4.45am and I wished him the best for New Zealand. I was leaving the next day so I had the day to kill, I started off with the hostel breakfast and then sorting out blogs, dream team competitions and how to get to the airport. My next stop of the day was The Hotel Orient for a steak dinner. Jack had recommended it the previous day. It didn't live up to his billing though, yeah it was tasty, but there semt to be a lack of food on the plate and I much preferred Melbourne's La Roche Thursday night special. Brisbane offered me very little that afternoon. I couldn't really be arsed to making any conversation / meet new people I didn't really see the point as I'd be leaving early the next morning and Brisbane had diddly squat for me to do. I'd been Brissy while travelling the east coast and more or less ticked off my Brisbane bucket list then. So my afternoon consisted of wasting time playing Mahjong Titans, watching films and having a cheeky play on football manager. The only thing which interrupted this was a cheeky trip to R.G.'s as they had steaks on offer for $6. So I had my second steak meal of the day and again it was a little disappointing. The reason was because the steak came swimming in pepper sauce, now don't get me wrong I love pepper sauce but not half a plate of it so my side salad is swimming in it! Still I wolfed that down and then resumed my position on Football Manager.
I decided upon a fairly early night as I had to set an alarm for 4.45am so I could get a train to the airport. So I could reach my next destination - Tasmania.
So until next time take care and stay safe
