It wasn't a long drive to Bundaberg, around an hour and a half. Tom was meeting Jeeva here, a friend of his who he met at Uni. He had arrived before us and got checked into a hostel which was right next to the coach stop. We arrived about 30 minutes after him, the hostel he chose wasn't great, no alcohol allowed, the rooms were a bit weird and 95% of the hostel was Asian. I have nothing against them at all but I have found they kind of stick in their own little groups and don't really socialise much. It didn't matter anyway we were only going to be here for a night or two.
Carl and Marian had also checked into the same hostel and we all went out to see if we could find anything that looked lively on a Monday night in Bundaberg. There was nothing so we decided to find a bottle shop and get the party started in the hostel. Unfortunately we never got chance to break the hostel rule of no alcohol being allowed because all of the bottle shops were closed. We were eager to have a few beers and give Jeeva a warm welcoming to Australia, so we dived into a pub and had a few beers. We made Jeeva ride the bus and then we had a friendly game of High Jack. Four beers each later I decided to get the shots in, an Australian guy at the bar decided to pay for them for us, I have no idea what the shot was but it was ok. This wasn't the case for poor old Jeeva, who had to run to the door to instantly projectile vomit. The whole pub was in stitches at him. We moved on to the Queenslander and had a cider. The Australian guy soon followed us there and began to buy us more drinks. First up was Jaeger Bombs. Jeeva bottled it and ran off home, literally ran off. Me and Tom stayed and had a few more drinks. The Australian guy was mental buying us shots left, right and centre. We had a shot with Tobasco Sauce in called a Hard Cock, an Abc, which consisted of Absinthe, Bacardi and something beginning with C, A shot which tasted like Caramel which Joy the bar manager gave to us on the house, she also invited us to her 50th party. We had a couple of wet p**** s they tasted like Ribena and I'm pretty sure there were more but everything at that stage of the night was a little hazy. We went back to the hostel and there were three French people waiting for a Bus. From what I remember I pretended to be my good friend Paul Kelly and gave them his business card and told them if they ever wanted to buy property in Dubai then to give me a call. I was also offering to cook them noodles or a Mac in a Sac a lot. I don't think they were that impressed with my drunken behaviour. I stumbled in the hostel and Carl and Marian were watching a film, I decided to join them and the next thing I know I've woke up at 4am with no one in site. I went to the toilet and threw up a little bit and then went and passed out in my room.
The next morning I was feeling very delicate, I was sick a little again, what I didn't need was more alcohol but unfortunately for me had already accepted the offer to go to the Rum Factory with Carl, Marian, Tom and Jeeva. We had a McDonald's breakfast and that sorted me out a little then went on to the Rum Factory. It was pretty impressive, I had my photo took with the big rum bottle outside. We had a guided tour where we learnt about the rum process from start to finishing, having taster, smells along the way. They were all not really that pleasant for my delicate situation. We finished up in the Distillery bar where we were able to get two free tasters. I chose the limited edition Dark Oak Bundaberg Rum as my first choice. It was 40%. I took one sip and felt like I wanted to throw up again. I gave it Tom and had a water. I braved a second choice and asked for something a little easier on the stomach. I ended up with a Bundaberg Chocolate and Coffee Liqueur with Milk. It was brilliant. It also helped my ropey stomach a bit. Carl and Marian then had to shoot off they had to be in Rainbow beach by two, so they dropped us off at the hostel and we said our goodbyes. We went to McDonalds again half because we were hungry and also because we wanted to use the free Wi-Fi to book our greyhound tickets out of Bundaberg. We had decided to get the bus as there was now three of us it would be much harder to hitch-hike. A few burgers later, a random Skype conversation with Tom and Jeeva's mate Jodie and we were all sorted. The Greyhound tickets were booked, but the bus wasn't until 11pm so we had to occupy ourselves for the rest of the day. First we made sure the hostel we wanted to stay in had availability and we could get in the early hours. It was no problem. Then we had a walk to Woolworths to get a drink, K-Mart where I got some new sun-glasses as I had left mine in Airlie Beach. We went to the library for some more cheeky Internet usage and then head to McDonalds for an ice cream. I was feeling much better just a little tired so we went back to the hostel where we took over the TV room. I started watching a bad film called Bookies unfortunately the DVD player was rubbish and it kept skipping and stopped half way through. We decided to put a film on the laptop to pass some time and ended up watching Wayne's World, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was cheap Tuesday so we decided to have a Domino's pizza, my first since I left Innisfail. We ate pizza and then taught Jeeva how to play s***head, he picked it up really quickly and before you knew it, it was time for the bus. I expected the bus to be late, as you know I've done my fair share of moaning about Greyhound buses on this blog. But it appears they must be avid readers of my Blog as they have picked up their game. The bus was on time to the second. So it was off to our next destination Hervey Bay and the famous Frazer Island.
So until next time Stay Safe and Take Care
