Went walking this morning with my camera and got some pictures of kangaroos, wallabies and birds. The wildlife here is unreal. There were no aborigines before white settlement and there are no predators so the animals are prolific and very comfortable around people. The koalas are fat and healthy and easy to find. The kangaroos and wallabies are not timid at all.

We drove over to Seal Bay this morning to see the Australian Sea Lion colony. It's a bit touristy but well worth it none the less. A boardwalk takes you down to the beach and there are sea lions just lying around on the beach and the dunes. A little guy was surfing in the waves. The bay is picture postcard perfect. There's a whale skeleton half way down.

We came back as far as Vivonne Bay where we fished off the jetty. There was not another soul around. Another perfect bay. We caught a few little fish, not sure what they were, and kept the biggest one. J & C very excited.

Saw a koala with baby on board in the tree right next to the van, and only a few metres away!

A and I headed to the Nat Park leaving J & C at home. First we went to Remarkable Rocks. This is a rock formation that has been formed by a dome of granite weathered away over millions of years. The remaining rocks are precariously perched on a rocky outcrop and have been carved into all sorts of odd shapes but mostly hollowed out boulders. It was very remarkable. Looking back towards the west was a great sight as the Southern Ocean waves rolled in against the cliffs and sent a blanket of salt spray up over the land.

Next, on to Cape de Couedic lighthouse and Admirals Arch. The arch is a natural arch made by the same process of eroding the rock. NZ fur seals live here in large numbers. You can take the walkway right down to the edge and see them sleeping on the rocks or playing in rock pools. These seals were almost wiped out by hunters in the 19th century but have recovered well now.

A made dinner in the camp kitchen with the fire going again. A possum came in to scavenge dropped bits of food off the floor as we sat in front of the fire afterwards and he came right up to us, even taking a sniff of my foot! The wildlife here is so tame. C saw a possum with a baby on its back. Another possum was climbing on the roof of our annex and the van.
