Today has been a looooooonnnnnnnnggggggggggg day!!! We were up at 5am, well, that's a lie actually! We left Nungwi Beach at 5am so were up before that! Particularly as we hadn't packed the night before! Good job we don't have much stuff with us!
We then took our good old air conditioned bus back to Stone Town for the 7am boat back to Dar es Salaam. Not forgetting the passport stamp on the way out. I slept on the bus and slept all the way on the boat too, I mean completely zonked out!!!
Just as we were pulling into Dar es Salaam I woke up and everyone asked if I had had a nice sleep and commented on how dead to the world I was! Haha!
Back on dry land we caught a 7 seater taxi and crammed into it to take us to the ferry crossing the river, then on to the campsite. Once back there we had 5 minutes to greet Vincent and have a quick toilet break before moving on.
Vincent by the way has eaten lots of pap, lazed around and had a generally good time. He ignores our thanks for cleaning the truck pretending he didn't do anything but in truth the truck is absolutely spotless and has clearly had a good, much needed, clean out!
Back on the road and we are heading towards northern Tanzania and eventually the Serengeti! Our stop for tonight is Lushoto and our ETA is 6pm!!! That's the longest day on the road so far!!!
The drive was boring and exhausting. To make matters worse the sun set when Mandla told us we were still about an hour and a half from camp! That means setting up our tents in the dark again!!! Adam and I quickly decided to find out about upgrading to a room for the night, particularly as we have another early start tomorrow and will be taking our tents down in the dark too!
Shortly after sunset we started climbing up some really windy roads into the mountains. Mandla told us that that tomorrow morning we will be doubling back and coming back down the mountains to our next destination…what!!!! Why? Why can't we just stay where we are, there must be campsite's nearby! That was pretty much what was one everyone's lips and minds anyway!
Once at campsite we asked to see a room and check the price. We have already paid $7pp for the use of the campsite so that amount of money should be taken off the total for the room but the lady on reception didn't get it and said we should pay extra. Mandla got into a big argument with her about this and after about half an hour got her manager on the phone who agreed that the amount already paid should be taken off the total due. The only problem is, his price is higher than the one quoted by his receptionist, about $7 higher!!! Hmmm, that puts it out of our budget so after nearly an hour of faffing around we decided to get our tent after all.
We didn't eat dinner until 9.30pm and I was falling asleep in my chair. Straight after dinner we went to bed not looking forward to another early start!
