Having arrived in Copacabana we all made our way up the steep hill to our first hostel. We were all tired so decided to get to the rooms and then go and book our second nights accommodation and find some food!
We went to a couple of places and had a look at the the rooms before booking as this seems a good way to do it. We went for a hotel overlooking the lake, not bad value either.
We found a nice restaurant and enjoyed some nice fresh smoked trout that was caught in Lake Titicaca. It was amazing!
Copacabana was so nice compared to Puno. It's very small but the atmosphere was nice and the people were really friendly.
Then off to bed for that night as we had booked a trip to the Isla del Sol (island of the sun) and we had to collect some lunch and be at the docks for eight thirty.
After getting up early to have a shower and pack Sarah discovered the shower was freezing cold so I got dressed and went to find the reception manager, first time I was too early but second time he flicked the switch and all was good! This made us late though!
We finished packing went for breakfast then headed downhill to catch our boat. We stopped off on the way down to collect some packed lunch, two sandwiches, apple, bannana, chocolate bar, juice and water for 30 bolivianos about three pounds. Bargain!
Next all aboard ready for the two hour journey to the island. Top deck was full so we went underneath not bad though but it wad a bit cold especially as we both had shorts and flip-flops on! After half an hour we had all decided that we had got the slowest boat in the world as all the other boats had passed us and we were going at such a slow pace.
Eventually we reached the south of the island and as we pulled on to the pontoon everyone got up thinking we were there! Wrong, we still had another half an hour to go.
So when we did get there and off we had to wait for a guide to tell us how it worked but he could only speak the local language and Spanish. We decided to head off anyway and see what we could find, first stop a local museum where a German guy did some of the translation for us so that was good and we got to learn some of the facts about the island and how it was formed and what they found in the submerged city.
We then left the group and walked across the beach where we saw a family of pigs eating the seaweed that had been washed up. It was really peaceful even though there were a few people around. It was really warm and sunny, just wanted to put my towel down and have a sun bathe.
Next we headed up the hill to look at the original inca walls which they had built to help with the irrigation. We could have walked on to the ruins but decided to pick a nice place to eat our lunch rather than going up as we had to catch the boat back to the south of the island.
As we walked back along the beach we saw a cow in the sea and also a lamb that was standing on the counter of a shop drinking some water, we think it has sneaked in and jumped up.
All aboard, we set sail to the south of the island to collect the people who had walked over the top (we were too lazy!) We stopped for about an hour just waiting and chilling before heading off back to Copacabana. The journey back must have been one of the slowest ever, nothing really to say about it other than how long it took. I think it would have been quicker to swim!
After eventually standing on dry land we collected our bags and moved hostels before going out and grabbing some food. We ended up in the same place as the night before and Charlene made us all laugh by whistling for the waiter not thinking he would hear, he did and she went bright red!
The next morning we all went for breakfast before having a stroll round the local markets where Sarah got a nice scarf and bracelet. We also got some grapes and apples for the journey. We hopped on the bus which was good compared to the horror stories that you tend to hear. About half way we had to stop and cross the river. We all got off the bus and on to a small boat whist the bus was loaded on a barge and transported across. It didn't look that sturdy so we were quite glad we were not on it. After that we were on the bus to La Paz only stopping once for a photo!
