Hi everyone (by louise)
So we arrived in Hoi An early morning from the over night bus from Nha Trang. Being the skilled travellers we have become me and bob went and looked for some accommodation and left our bags with friend emma, about an hour later we returned having agreed on a bargain, i think she thought we'd just left her with our luggage lol
After a wash (on my behalf) we went and grabbed some local cuisine and i used the chop sticks for the whole meal! When we came to pay the bill bob pointed out to the vietnamese girl a graffittied drawing of a willy in the bill book , she was so embarressed and then the whole clan of vietnamese staff were in histerics! i don't think she dared to come back and give us our change lol
We had a walk down to the riverside and look about the shops, Hoi An is capital for handmade suits and dresses, ever other shop is one! Market down by river was mad, lots of food, raw meat and nic naks, a skinned hog head took me by surprise and made me wretch! theres lots of geese hung upside down from bike handles with their feet tied together, very cruel and i wanted to free them. We finally got dragged into a warehouse with about fifty material stalls all wanting you to buy clothes from them. Bob went in for the kill and got his first fitting for a custom made suit (60 dollar for jacket shirt and trousers). He was loving it when all the tiny vietnamese girls were saying how they love tall white handsome men and stroking his arms lol my favourite bit was when she put the tape measure right up his bum haha
The next morning we hired bicycles for 50pence each for 24hours! bargain!
Best thing we've done, first we were bit nervous on the roads with all the motorbikes but after a while i was like evil canevil (before the death) wizzing in and around everyone. We rode to the beach which was about 5kms away. On the way i saw a cute little dog flying from a speeding motorbike laying dazed in the rode, the guy just picked him back up and put him on the seat in front of him, not even in the basket on front, i wanted to head nutt him for it, tyke i would never do that to you son!
We loved it at the beach for the two hours it lasted! before the winds picked up and the hardcore rain was going to come. So we rode back to the riverside and through all the little streets lined with shops and into the areas people were living. gave you a much better feel of the place. bob went back for his second ego boosting (i mean suit fitting) and we had some tea at a cafe we'd heard was good, right on the riverfront and cheap : ) although we were caught stealing the chop sticks lol and had to return them from our bags.
we were lucky that night as it was a full moon and the vietnamese were having some sort of candle festival for this with lots of little candles and lanterns on the river. bob nearly bought 10 lanterns for his mam! until he realised the size of them and that he wouldnt be able to carry them with us (also he said he didn't want the job of wiring them to lighting) but the thought was there! We also stumbled across some vietnamese sort of jousting show and kids karate show.
This morning we got up and rode our bikes back to the market for bobs last ego boost (aka: final fitting after adjustments) bob wants me to say that she mentioned he had a lovely body lol We went back to cafe 96 for breakfast/dinner and the guy remembered us for the chopsticks haha and said we could take some for a souvenoir as we had came back for a second time : )
We got the open tour bus early afternoon and arrived in Hue this evening. We are staying at Phong Nha Hotel (for you Mam lol) and got the room for 5 pound for the night with breakfast included! Tonight we've been for a look around Hue city centre and were surprised at how big it is. We ate at the Mandarin Cafe which was ncie and cheap and had a mint owner named Mr Cu who has all his own photography lining the walls, he's a well known protographer over here and we seen his work in publications etc..
Were off to find ourselves the finest conical hats tomorrow (hue is well known for them) so chow for now
