Hello everyone, we are now in Hanoi and it has been mixed opinions! (By adam)
The roads are just hectic everywhere, even the back roads are jam packed. Im not sure if weve mentioned this before but everybody uses their horn over here. The vietnamese use their horns as much as we use our indicators so you can imagine the noise constantly! Thats why we love more quiet places. We have arrived early in Hanoi and we have 7 days here but we plan to do a couple of trips, definately to Halong Bay and maybe to Sapa if we have enough time.
Our hotel was cheap and had a nice room, but detective Feenan was on the case and did some research on the hotel and found some crucial and condemning evidence. the hotel has been renamed about three times and that normally means it has been given terrible reviews so it has to change its name, and then i was informed that the staff get aggressive if you book with other tour companies and loads of teenage boys hang out the front of the hotel at night. "Thats it Inspector Feenan i've heard enough" i said, so we packed our bags up straight away to check out in the morning.
So at this point our view on Hanoi was looking bleak, and out of all the nights i had to get a bad stomach that night. God dammit! I'll not go into the specifics but it was disastorous!! end of! lol and to make things worse i had just managed to go to bed at 4.30am and just as i was drifting off this stupid fat rooster started COCK-A-DOOOD-ILING ouside the window, i couldnt believe it every 20 seconds without fail then it soon stopped, i imagine someone else had the same idea as me and its now probably in someones chicken stir fry!
So we booked into a nicer hotel......or soo we thought!! (i'll explain later) Anyway way that night we had a wonder round and had a lovely meal and went down by the lake, Hanoi is centered round a massive lake with pretty colourful changing lanterns and i have to admit it was pretty impressive! We just went for a walk around the lake about 9pm and people were doing, yoga, kung fu, jogging and it was a really nice atmosphere so we picked up some ice lollies and they were amazing the flavour was lemon and mint and it has now become a tradition! Hanoi was slowly getting back into our good books!
We also booked a 3 day trip to Halong bay that evening which we are really looking forward too .
