So today is my last day in Melbourne! For me 5 days has been plenty enough time to see and do everything I wanted!
Since I last wrote I've had a wicked night out with my roommates from nomads, been to st kilda, changed hostels (twice), watched Southampton lose to reading at 4 in the morning, strolled down the pit lane at Albert park (Australian grand prix circuit) and watched an AFL game!
St kilda is lush! All that's there is a kids theme park (Luna park), beaches (lots of beaches) and (apparently) a wicked nightlife! I stayed at the ritz (for backpackers... It's actual name) while I was there which is on one of the two busy streets in st kilda, fitzroy st. It was alright I guess but mainly full of people who are working out here as opposed to those here for a travelling holiday (like me!)
The weather has been pretty awesome! Feels like 25/30 degrees during the day and only drops to a few degrees in the evenings (it was 19 degrees at 11 last night) but yet I still haven't got tan lines!
I went to an AFL (Aussie rules football) game last night at the etihad stadium (the smaller of the 2 stadia in Melbourne) between st kilda saints and western bulldogs, both Melbourne teams... Along with 8 more of the 18 that make up the league! I didn't have a clue who to support or any of the rules at all before going to the game but quickly got talking to some st kilda fans who taught me the basics and got me to, naturally, support the saints. It's a very different atmosphere to English football... Not really any chants, mixed supporters (like rugby) and just a fairly relaxed attitude to a very physical sport! Great game to watch and st kilda won as a bonus (something like 103-30).
Moved back to Melbourne CBD and I'm now staying at greenhouse backpackers hostel which feels more like a hotel than a hostel!
I'm booked on the midday tour of Ramsey street so that's my afternoon sorted! Then either hitting the pillow early or going out and partying hard until the early hours as check in for my flight to Auckland opens at 4am tomorrow!
