My friends told me there was nothing to do in Brisbane-they were wrong. The first day I got here I met Frances (from South America) and Susannah Mascall-an old school friend who now works out here-so nice to see a familiar face. We all had a good catch up over a few beers and dinner down by the river.
On day 2 I went to the famous Castlemain XXXX Brewery. Although I didn't really like beer to start with I kind of developed a taste after the 3rd free beer after the end of our tour. After finding our way out of the bar we walked down the road to the Suncorp Stadium-home of the Brisbane Broncoes (Aussie League Rugby). They got demolished by the Sydney Dragons, and I didn't understand what was going on all the time-but it was a good game and a good way to spend the evening.
Day 3 was a visit to the Modern Art Gallery to have a look a Picasso display-apparently the first time his work has been displayed outside Europe? I then met Vicky and Guy (South American travel friends) for dinner. We had a catch up and they drove me up to a look out over the city. It really showed just how huge the city is.
Day 4 (sunday) was a quite day. Went to see the new X Files movie. Got pissed off by stupid kids talking and thowing pop corn all through it...I'm getting old!
Day 5-10 stayed with Suz in Stafford, a subrub in the city. Nice to be somewhere a bit more homely-and great to stay with an old friend. We had a good night out in the city and did some sight seeing and did a very touristy trip on the city cat-the boat that goes up and down the river-stopping at all the places in the city you need to see. Also met up with Vicky and Guy again, went to thier house for dinner-met some of teh family, all very nice. I was also introduced to the best ice cream shop in the world-would anyone like to go into business with me so we can franchise this in the UK? Anyone that hasn't had Cold Rock Ice ream is missing something in their lives.
