We left our hotel this morning at 5:30am so to be sure to catch our train to Geneva at 7:06. The desk clerk at the hotel arranged to have a cab pick us up and I gave him the instructions. I should have looked at my papers more closely but I rattled off Gare d Nord and the cab driver questioned but took us there anyway. 30 euros later we arrived but couldn't locate our train. That's because it was in St Lazare. 15 more euros fixed that. Good thing we had plenty of time and Euros. Rode the TGV and that was fun and fast too.
Transferred to two more trains, one which we only had 6 minutes to go down a ramp, across to another platform and back up, I'm pushing all the suitcases up the ramp questioning all the way why we have so much stuff. Barely made it. The door closed on my arm as I grabbed the last bag.
Reached Zermatt just after 2pm. Pushed our bags up the street, I mean uphill to our the hotel. We settled into our room with a balcony overlooking all the action on the Main Street. Now off to the Gronergrat, a cogwheel train that goes up towards the Matterhorn. Up we went with great views. Came back down so Mom could shop. She bought a watch. What a neat village.
We went back to the hotel and cleaned up. I people watched from the balcony waiting for Mom. Had a real nice dinner at our hotel, some sort of Swiss dinner with cabbage, potatoes, garden vegetable soup, dessert and wine. It was good! Walked the streets a bit and called it a night. I would be pushing that luggage back to the rail station for a 6:13 to Visp. Downhill this time. Why all these bags? The people in this town party till 2am!
More to come when we get to Interlaken on Tuesday. The Internet, while available, is sporadic and sometimes we get only a bit before it dies and we try later.
