The 'hotel' in Basel was unstaffed, so after making my own breakfast and packing up, I dropped my key in the letter box and left. Very soon I was in France (Basel airport is in France!), and following the D468 most of the way as decided yesterday using Google Maps on my iPod Touch. (I had failed to load the maps for this area on my Garmin - Doh!) I stopped for lunch in a nice little restaurant in Marckolsheim. It was a lovely sunny day again, and the colourful houses typical of this area looked very smart. My route plan worked fine until the D468 ran out just south of Strasbourg. My hotel was the Premiere Classe Strasbourg Illkirch, which was in a light industrial park surrounded by motorway slip roads and not far from the airport - not very easy to get to on a bicycle! I did get rather lost but finally got there about 1830. The bike was stowed away in the laundry room, and after freshening up I walked round to another hotel for dinner, but was too late, so I walked a bit more, avoiding a 'French Macdonalds', and found a big Chinese restaurant where I had a very good buffet meal.
