Our first encounter with Dracula! We have come to the birth place of Vlad Tempes who apparently is the inspiration behind Bram Stokers 'Dracula'. Very spooky.
The town is ancient which really does add atmosphere to it's story. It's streets are very narrow and cobbled and the houses have the remnants of colourful paint work. The town is full of history but not much of it is translated into English so we can't tell you much more! But there was a bloke who liked to impale people, ewwww!
Tried some Romanian cuisine; stuffed cabbage rolls with sour cream and polenta. Think I'd rather be impaled on a spike than repeat that experience! I'm not sure the situation would be that much better if you ate meat unless Pigs Knuckles sound appealing to you!
All the historic sites are quite eager to dismiss their links to Dracula but thankfully the enterprising Romanian stall holders are embracing the link. Anyone want a blood painted stake for their front door or a Vlad the Impaler mask? Get your requests in quick there's only so much room in the van!
