Melaka wasn't quite the sleepy historical town we had in mind. This may have been because we arrived on a holiday weekend so it was rammed with locals, and also because of the huge shopping centres, London Eye-esque wheel, massive spinning tower thing, and busy quayside. We found a quirky little GH to stay in run by two very chilled guys, with a nice garden area, and its very own bunny called Mr Playboy. Chinatown was all a bit much for us the first night so we wandered the side-streets until we came across a lovely little restaurant where we sampled Laksa, a delicious local dish.
The next day we got a bit more cultural, going to the replica Palace and gardens, St. Paul's Hill, and visited the oldest mosque and chinese temple in Malaysia. By lunchtime we'd pretty much exhausted everything there was to do and so sought aircon refuge in the shopping centre, where we decided we might as well catch a movie. It took us a good thirty mins to find out where the cinema was after going up seemingly endless escalators. It was a choice between Hannah Montana and Angels and Demons (we chose the latter, incase you were wondering!) That night we had two dinners... one up a street near us where we had Melaka's famous fish in banana leaf, and then after a walk came across a food hall with roti stall and decided we were hungry again :P!
Was planning on spending another day there but with nothing left to do decided to head back to KL and go to Taman Negara a day early. Had pretty much seen everything I'd wanted to there as well so just organised my bus for the next day and lazed around Reggae again until we walked across to Little India for amazing curry and naan, dare I say it but possibly better than Millenium Balti :P!
