Another early start on the road-6am as we hope to cover the 500 miles to Nordkapp today. Its cloudy and cold and starts to rain. Going is good for a start until we hit sections of gravelly road. Not too bad to get through thank goodness. We cover 120 miles before a petrol and warm up stop. Everybody is cold and I put my last item of clothing on - my waterproof leggings.
We eventually cross into Finland for a while and then into Norway. Although going is still cold we encounter lovely riding roads about 100 miles from Nordkapp which make for a great riding experience. They run initially through a gorge and then follow the coast round with fast sweeping bends and spectacular tunnels through desolate countryside. Grazing reindeer are everywhere!
We reach Nordkapp at about 5pm. Rather commercialised but pay our equivalent 30 euros to get in and have the obligatory photos next to the globe. Nordkapp or Northern Cape is the furthest north you can get in Europe by vehicle. Being well above the artic circle it is a favourite spot to view the midnight sun in June.
Our accomodation for the evening is the Nordkapp Vandrerhjem youth hostel with Steve, Nick and I sharing a room.
So south tomorrow and hopefully warmer weather.
