Left our bags at the hotel not sure they understood that we were going away for two nights but hopefully they will still be there when we return. Journey to Ukunda was easy. We thought we were going to have to pay for the ferry crossing but no where to buy tickets turns out it was free. Our hotel a short Matatu ride from beach and very nice balcony and even hot water!
Went down to Dani beach very resorty. Lots of people around on 1-2 weeks holiday with money to spend. The beach was much nicer than Lamu as the sand did not blow all over you and the sea was very nice too. Spent most of our time near the 40 thieves bar the most popular place on the beach. My belly still not good went to get some Imodiumthen headed back to the beach. On the way back we saw some Colombus Monkeys (very rare) only found in this part of the coast. The tide had come in and we only just made in around to the beach. We met a couple of Swiss we had met in Lamu. Went to a local joint in Ukunda for dinner it was okay but very greasy.
Next morning up on the beach early very hot today. Met the Swiss they had out a slack line between two trees. A slack line is like a stretchy high wire. It was very hard just to stand on neither of us managed to walk along it. We did manage a picture where it looks like I am. The swiss were much better it is meant to be a bit of a craze back in Switzland. Maybe we should get ahead oif the game and buy some to sell in the UK. Spent nearly the whole day on the beach I did watch a bit of the ashes and we sheltered from a brief but very heavy shower.
Last day in Dani we went to look at the Kongo Mosque. It was very unimpressive old it maybe but not asthetically pleasing. The Kaya (sacred grove of trees) was much more impressive huge trees dwarfing the Mosque. Walked the whole way along the beach a good hour or so. We were accompanied by various beach boys along the way did not buy anything. Getting bored of saying where I am from, where I am staying, what I do not want to buy. Last couple of hours spent on the beach, as time was ticking by a particularly annoying beach boy hastened our exit.
Back in Mombassa our bags were there. We went out for Indian a lot more food than expected neither of us managed to finish unlike us. Probably not a good idea with a bad belly and a long bus ride next day.
