Well, we left Bocas & made the trip back to Costa Rica. To get there we took a really exciting speed boat ride from Bocas to Changuinola. The boat went up a rather tight river speeding through, going past all these falling down wooden shacks which people were living in, and past little dug out boats carrying bananas , i felt like James Bond!!
We got to Puerto Viejo, which although a little touresty, was really nice. Whilst there we had a little swim in the shorey and then took to the task of selling the boards! All was going well, but then it rainned continously for the next day when we were going to be sat on the side of the street selling!! So to cut a very long and wet story short, we sold both our boards for the meagre price of $350, better than nothing, and being that my (aaron) board was a bit dinged up by now, it wasnt too bad, and certainly nicer to not have them on the overly priced airlines!
So we didnt surf in Viejo, which was a shame, as there was swell and it was offshore! We did see Salsa Brava working at double overhead though. It is meant to be the heaviest wave in Costa, and it certianly looked like it, it made santa catalina look like perranporth at high tide!!
Whilst at Viejo though, we went to a natural Botanial garden, where there was loads of trees, plants, fruits and really cool red and green and black arrow dart frogs (see the pics!). We had a little talk about a lot of the fruits growing and tried them, including raw chocolate, which actually grows in nuts! Mrs H, you would have loved it, there was raw pepper (as in black pepper), ginger, mangosteen, pineapples, rubber trees and coca trees where the original ingredient of coca cola and cocaine came from! It was all very interesting, but unfrotunaely we got pretty wet and pretty bitten by mossies!!!
So we left this morning, and took a very scenic bus journey through the mountains to San Jose and are now in the hostel in for our flight to Hawaii tomorrow , really looking forward to that as it will be a nice change of scene, and, we get to go surfboard shopping again!!!
