A and J World Trip
Hi Everyone,
There was more to Ecuador than just The Galapagos. Here we found colonial buildings, huge churches, colourful markets, local crafts and traditions as well as interesting culture.
We started in Quito where we enjoyed the old town and May Day festivities. This became our base for exploring Ecuador and our first trip was north to the market town of Otavalo.
There we had an interesting trip to the local villages to see crafts and produce, even having a go ourselves - it was hard work!!
After Galapagos, we headed deep into the jungle. Being used to luxury, this turned into a real adventure. Canoe breakdowns, running aground, sleeping with just a mosquito net around us and being very close to nature made for a fun trip. We heard lots of noises, however the animals were much harder to spot than in the Galapagos - they have places to hide here!! We did see some good stuff though, including monkeys, toucans and lots of creepy crawlies!
Heading south through the Andes, we enjoyed a roof top train ride in beautiful countryside and down the Devils Nose - a steep hill where the train zig zags back and forward to decend.
Cuenca was our last city - another lovely colonial town with its cobbled streets and run down charm.
All in all we really enjoyed travelling in Ecuador - one of the less touristed places on our travels.
From here to the north of Peru - our wonderful WT is nearly coming to an end!!
Hope you are all doing well and look forward to seeing you again soon.
Lots of love, A&J xx
