A and J World Trip
Hola Everyone!!
So here we are in South America, the last leg of our trip and 9 months in.....boo. But we're out tonight to celebrate having a quarter still to go!!
The continent change has taken a little getting used to...we spoilt ourselves silly in NZ and Oz and travelling here is harder work again...a shock to the system. By the way, we say 'work'in the loosest sense!!
Santiago was a good start and we enjoyed taking in some old architecture again! Chilean food was a bit bleak...not a vitamin in sight...but the drink was better...Pisco sours were a fun drink! Lots of planning took place and we eventually took off towards the Lake District...
This involved a first border skip over to Argentina and Bariloche was a breath of fresh air (literally after smoggy Santiago!). Gorgeous steaks, lots of red wine and gorgeous scenery for walking....we loved it. And then it was down into Patagonia....
Which was absolutely freezing!! For the first time WT managed to be colder than home...very poor!! The W trek in Chile's Torres del Paine national park was maybe an ambitious move in the rain and cold, and stretched our relationship somewhat, but was worth it looking back! Put it this way...the scenery that we saw through the clouds was absolutely stunning, but we may never share a tent again!!
El Calafate in Argentina was next to have a few days recovery and to see the amazing and vast Perito Moreno Glacier. It turned out that our timing was good...it had hit the land for the first time in 2 years, caused a dam, created a tunnel and was extremely active. Bits crashing off and making thunderous noises. Brilliant. We came away with 100 ice photos!!
And we've now made our way to Buenos Aires to meet Dan and Mel in two days time....yippee.
Hope you're all doing well.
Muchos love
Jane and Andy xx
PS Hello to Damien and Rach who we met in Santiago and seem to be stalking us now!!! Looking forward to seeing you soon.
