Our bus ride to Rwanda was….interesting. I nearly had it out with some guy and Lance's foot was puked on. The day continued down this path of interestingness when we tried to get money. Finding ATM's had been no problem in Uganda, even in the small villages, so surely this won't be a problem in Rwanda's capital city. Wrong! To make matters worse, they don't exchange money either. After pounding the pavement for a few hours trying to get money, we finally found the only solution: charging a credit card at the bank (notice that I didn't say a bank).
By this time, it was already evening. After a lovely dinner, we headed back to the hotel but took a detour to the bar in the basement. I'm so glad we did! They were having "karaoke" night. I put karaoke in quotations because their version is merely lip synching. I didn't figure that out with the first act though. Let me just say that Michael Jackson was in the house! This guy was in costume and tearing up the stage with his moonwalking. I loved it! The acts that followed didn't hold a candle to MJ, but they did amuse me, which I also appreciate.
Rwanda is so different from Uganda. The language here is French; very little English is spoken, so communication has been frustrating. It's clear that there's a strong European presence here, as there is order (particularly noticeable in traffic) and an effectively operating society. And the roads! They are flat and paved and don't have potholes! It's like a dream!
