Leaving glorious Koh Phi Phi behind we sped towards the port of Krabi and back to Ao Nang where we would meet Michael and David who arrived a few days earlier after a brief stay in Bangkok! We checked back into the Ao Nang Grand Inn and killed some time adding to our already bulging backpacks with some dresses and met the boys for a late lunch in a restaurant along the beach front. It was so good to see the boys and have a really good catch up over a round of Chang's- even Joey had one, she will not admit it but she is a fan of the Chang at heart ;) The remainder of the afternoon was spent shopping along the stalls and partaking in a few more drinks before eating in our favourite Ao Nang restaurant, 'Thailandia'.
The following day we were set to move onto Klong Wang, a small, semi secluded area around 13k away from the hustle and bustle of Ao Nang, where we would stay for the next 4 nights but first of all it was time for our first Thai massage in 'Lets See, Lets relax'. The beginning of the experience was lovely, they clean your feet with some lovely balm (not so lovely the second time around when a mozzie had had a good go at my ankles, ouch!) and give you some tea, the taste of which we likened to 'Nice Biscuits' before taking us through to gown up in brown fisherman's trousers and a cream smock, you would laughed at the sight of us all! There are photos to come at some point soon! After that amusement it was time for the massage. I spent a lot of the time trying not to burst into fits of giggles and was surprised by the enthusiasm that the woman put into popping my toes, knees, hips, fingers- OUCH! The culmination of the event was when the woman took great delight in massaging my head, or as I like to see it messing up already very messy traveller hair, I looked like (as did we all) that I had been playing around with electrical sockets and clearly everyone else thought so too as the room erupts into fits of laughter! Having said that the whole experience was pretty relaxing and the second one was much better, lets see how the third one goes tomorrow :)
Our accommodation in Klong Wang came highly recommended by the boys and we were not disappointed, it was pretty lovely and included breakfast too, result! The scenery here is just as stunning as the scenery we have come to get used too and the area is a lot quieter too which was really nice. The days have mainly been spent catching up on news over a few beers and having some lovely food in a few places recommended by the boys as they had stayed here for a time last year! We fund one particularly lovely 'Bar', pretty much as on the beach as you can get, that had lovely outdoor seating under little gazebo's. We had a fantastic few evenings there with Buy One Get One Free cocktails, that were exactly as you would expect, BOGOF, not something that should be taken for granted as an entertaining episode in 'Paddys Irish Bar' would demonstrate a few days later! They had a little swing tied up on a tree that you accessed via the beach that became a great source of entertainment after a few Mai Tai's!
The highlight of these few days however was that we got to 'charter' our own longtail for the day which was really cool. We got the boat over to the Hong Islands and took in the glorious water of the lagoon before heading to a quiet island beach nearby. Whilst there we got to see a Water Monitor Lizard, first of three that day, pretty formidable character that clearly didn't like to be photographed and kept moving forward into the crown that had descended, scary stuff! There were also a small area where they have left the boats that got pushed onto the island from the Sea during the Tsunami, they will keep them there until they get taken over by nature. From there we went onto another lovely island beach for lunch and took in some sun before heading back to dry land!
Bye Bye Krabi, next stop Chang Mai in the north!
