I slept the whole way back on the bus, on arrival at La Paz around 10am there was a further complication to my travels as none of the taxis could cross the city due to another protest (what is it with this country and protests!) Armed with some dubious directions from a taxi driver I walked back to my hotel, it was as it turned out only a 20 min walk, but when I finally arrived at my lovely hotel (the courtyard is shown in the picture) I nearly kissed the ground,...

I was so paranoid about waking up freezing cold in the middle of the night, I pretty much put on everything I had with me including my down jacket. So that was 2 pairs of socks, thermal bottoms and top, PJs, a t-shirt and two jumpers, hat and gloves. I was inside a silk liner, in a sleeping bag under 3 blankets with a hot water bottle (which Wilda kindly produced for each group member). Guess what, I woke up totally dehydrated and boiling hot! We were up at 5 am...

Despite the temperatures getting down to freezing and there being no heating I actually slept pretty well last night. I was very pleased I had hired a sleeping bag. We had an early very basic breakfast, packed up the 4x4 and hit the road (well dirt track). All the driving has been off road and there is no way anyone other than a local guide would find their way around, there are no distinct tracks and certainly no sign posts. So the 12 hour night bus.... well actually for me it was not that bad since it seems I really can sleep anywhere. We were only 1 & 1/2 hours late departing (honestly I was expecting more) but were given a (just about edible) hot meal, a pillow and a blanket, so this was not as it turned out the rickity local bus jam packed with people and chickens and for that I was greatly relieved.
