Well after a couple of days of recovering from the new years celebrations i felt ready to come on here and tell you what i remember about them. One thing i do know is that Sydney certainly know how to bring the new year in.
After last minute attemts on the 30th to find some parks in Sydney to watch the fireowks where you can bring your own alcohol we managed to find several and plans were looking up. So bags packed again me and Rob headed down on NYE eary in the morning ready to get started. Tina and the boys had kindly said we could bunk in with them for a couple of days as we would probably struggle to get back to Dee Why with the madness after the celebrations and that. After waiting for a few hours for Connar, Mo, Scott and Jason to pull there fingers out we headed to Observatory hill armed with plenty of goon to last the 12 hour stint. Observatory hill was a great place to watch the fireworks and absolutely full of backpackers (mainly Brits) the view looked amazing too.
So at about 12 in the afternoon when we arrived we got on it with the goon and began to wait for the madness to commence. Admitteldy i dont rem much after about 6 in the evening and the rest is a bit of a blur but i do have some pics of the 9 o'clock fireworks and apparently tried my best to get pics of the 12 o'clock ones but my memory stick was full and was too drunk to figure out what to do. From looking at other peoples pics and vids of them they were absolutely brilliant by the way. The only weird things i remember was everytime i went to the toilet i would meet someone from leeds in the queue, the first one was Tony who was a DJ at the cockpit in leeds whose Girlfriend had dumped him on the flight on the way over and the 2nd was a girl from cookridge whose accent was stronger then mine and the 3rd a girl called Zoe who i dont remember but kept introducing her to people? So as you guessed i had a good time and lost Rob who left early in a drunk state and walked home after coming back friom the toilet and failing to find anyone (we had not moved) so i think he watched the fireworks from the toilets in the hostel. What a bunch of drunken reprobates!
Waking up feeling rough as hell on the morning of New years day was not great considering we had tickets to Field day which is basically a big dance festival in the Domain Park with the likes of 2manydj's, DJ Yoda, Roger Sanchez playing it was not going to be one where i could sit in a corner feeling sorry for myslef and drinking water. Starngley considering how rough i felt I had the best time ever, i think it was mostly down to the people i spent the day with who made it so much fun but the music was insanely brilliant and i will be visiting more dance festivals in the future. So my new years memories are great and can safely say i had the best new years ever even if i forgot parts of NYE - thats what made it great.
Sydney has been great, there has been highs and lows and its bled me dry of money but its a wicked place and i have no regrets about the time i have spent here, people i have met and places i have seen. The travel bit if travelling has been lacking for sometime now though and i am sooooo ready to move on. Tonight we take the greyhound bus to Byron Bay which is 13 hours ride and i cant wait to spend some time up there and actually do so travelling about abit as we plan to do the Whitsundays, Fraser Island and visit Brisbane. Byron Bay looks amazing but we have been unable to get accomodation there because of the time of year so are staying about 17 kilometres away which is just a 25 min bus journey so will still be able to check it out whilst there for the first few days - its hippy paradise apparently.
Happy New year to everyone back home i hope you have a great year and may it be better than the last. Sorry for not getting in touch over new years but i think my blog expalins the reasons. Miss you all. Take care and ill be in touch soon from further up the coast.
