Too Cold For Penguins
Hi Everyone,
We visited the Sacred Valley on 27th June on a tour. The weather was horrendous, very cold and wet and it snowed! It made us nervous because we were due to do the Inca trail the following day. First stop was Pisac market. Managed to haggle ourselves some alpaca wool socks to keep our feet warm, but it was so wet we weren't really interested in the rest of the market. Visited the archeological site of Pisac afterwards which was very interesting. It is a religious site on a mountain, and involves a 2km walk to visit. From here we went for our 'free' lunch which cost us 12 soles each!! Don't trust the tour operators!
In the afternoon the weather cleared a little and we visited Ollantaytambo ruins. These were really spectacular. Unfortunately a lot of the architecture was destroyed by the spaniards during the conquest in the 16th century. Take a look at the pics!
Afterwards we visited Chinchero church, one of the first Catholic churches to be built during the conquest. Unfortunately we were there too late to get decent light for a photo, and it was not allowed to take pictures inside, but the church is beautiful.
All for now,
Ben and Hels xxxx
