Hi Guys! Arrived in Puno on Friday, it's cold! We just chilled out yesterday and went to visit the Yavari, a naval boat from the mid 19th Century, made in England to sail on Lake Titicaca. At the time, she had to be carried by donkey from Arica (now Chile, then Peru) hundreds of miles across land and reassembled on the lake. Today we visited the Uros floating islands, made entirely out of reeds. The islands have been inhabited since hundreds of years BC, and the people who live on them are exempt from taxes. We also visited Taquile, an island (not made out of reeds) on the Lake. The fellas there wear different types of hats depending on their age and eligibility, i.e. married or not, and the way in which they wear them shows if they are happy. Sounds like a recipe for disaster! The lake is beautiful. We're going to Copacabana tomorrow for a few days. Love to you all! Hels and Ben xxx
