Huw's Bit
Heard the metro (Tube) was worth seeing so spent an hour whiz zing around this morning. Well worth it! Some of the stations are fabulous: ceilings, chandeliers, mosaics, extraordinary! And the service! Train every 2 minutes, $1 per journey for as far as you want, clean - nobody talks though same as rest of world!
Got dragged to the museum of Modern Art! Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhh! Don't get it at all! How can you have a museum of modern art - oxymoron? Chrissie thinks I'm a philistine and reactionary! I think its just a reaction against these 'artists' sense of reality! They have to be on drugs!
Walked the Arbat, old part of Moscow! Very modern now! Had a Starbucks!
Another lovely swim and spa! Late dinner coming up and off out to Red Square to see it all lit up!
Christine's bit
Up early and off to explore the underground. We figured out how to buy a ticket and with nothing in English, hoped we had the right train. It is incredibly cheap to ride the tube (about $1.00). The idea was that we would get off at any station we wanted and look at the beauty of the stations that we had heard about. We were amazed at the classical beauty, chandeliers, art work in the first station and as we continued on was further amazed at each station we chose to get off and look. A real treasure of Moscow.
Ended up close to the Contemporary Art Museum - thought it would be a selection of contemporary Russian art but was one exhibition of multi media interactive installations of about 8 different artists. Some were good and worth a look, others as Huw said "a pile of poo". As the attendant taking our money didn't have English we took a chance as to want we would see - win some , loose some!
Walked around the old area of Moscow where artists and literary giants used to frequent - lots of artists doing people's portraits - very good. More exploring around the pedestrian malls around our hotel and then recuperation time at the hotel, quick workout in gym before evening meal and going to look at the lights in Red Square.
