It was dark and we were still in our beds when we sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge to dock at San Francisco.
As we were going on a 5 hour excursion to Alcatraz and then over the Golden Gate Bridge to the bayside village of Sausalito, a good breakfast was most definitely in order!!? There was a delay getting off the ship as we all had to go through US Immigration before leaving, and you always get someone who tries to avoid this.
Anyway we got away on our coach for a 10minute drive to get to the pier next to us. One way system!!! Then on the ferry to Alcatraz Island (The Rock), a very haunting and atmospheric experience, especially when Chris said to me get in one of the cells and I'll take a picture.
We learnt much about life in the prison and watched a video of the last escape from the island. A film by Clint Eastwood was made of this escape.
Returning on the ferry to our coach, we went over the Golden Gate Bridge to the picturesque village of Sausalito.
We were dropped off by the cable car station for a ride. Later we walked around the shops and Pier 39 which is famous for its restaurants and the seals that congregate at the end of the pier.
Back on board we hade time for dinner before the sail away with the lights of the city and passed under the Golden Gate Bridge on our way to Honolulu.
