The afternoon of the Cohort's last day in Prague was spent taking a guided tour of Prague Castle. The guide, Vaclav, was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Items that spring to mind:
Tulips are an imported flower, imported from Turkey.
Construction of St. Vitus Cathedral began in the 14th century and completed in and completed in the early 20th Century.
One of the stained glass windows was bestowed upon the church by a bakery. Because of this, in the lower right hand corner there is a boy holding a pretzel.
The Habsburg royal line once ruled Czechia and the people do not think of them fondly. One of the stained glass windows has the faces of the Habsburg royals on each of the sinners burning in hell.
Recently, the UN has recognized that the Czech Republic can be called Czechia instead.
There is a staircase into the castle designed for horses.
Prague has a history of changing their government via defenestration (throwing people out a window).
Golden Lane (the row of houses/rooms literally stuck to the castle wall) got its name because there was only one outhouse/toilet for everyone to use.
The 2019 Cohort had a great time touring Prague Castle!
