Arrived here on 17th June, this is our second visit to this city. Many things have changed not least the amount of shopping malls and new high rises still being built. Saying that still a great place, the Jessleton point a small area were you can get a boat to the various islands and the ferry to Brunei. There are a few bars and restaurants as well. One of the oldest structures in the city is the Atkinson clock built in 1905 to comemorate the first district officer Francis George Atkinson. Most other buidings were destroyed during the 2nd world war.
If you enjoy shopping try the night market or the Gaya St Sunday market, be prepared to barter. There are several places locally to visit,
The Nanamun River to see the proboscis monkey's then when it's dark the spectacular fireflies. Fly to Sandakan see the Orang-utans, or just take a taxi to the Lok Kawi wildlife santuary. There are numerous other places and things to see and do. There is an observation platform a short walk from the city check it out some fantastic views of the area.
