Today was the day we crossed the border into Laos! We woke up and had a good breakfast which was also free at he hostel. Then the hostel guide spoke to us all about the procedure of crossing the border and how much it costs. He also did anyone a passport photo who didn’t have one and sorted out people with dollars who also didn’t have any!
We made our way onto the coach and had a short journey to the border. We arrived at the border and did all the paperwork and got through the other side. The bus then took us straight to the slowboat!
The slowboat was a cheap alternative for getting to Laos and also very scenic! The boat was long and thin and full of backpackers! Everyone was drinking at the start. We all had quite a bit to drink then realised it might not be a good idea as we were on the boat all day and the toilets were horrendous! It was a fun journey and we made a lot of new traveller friends!
When we arrived at the half way stop a couple Of hostel owners jumped on board with big boards showing there hostels. No one had accommodation booked so we decided to risk it and go for a £2 a night one! As we got off the boat they had a van which took us al to the hostel!
We definitely Stayed in what we had paid for! The hostel was made of pure wood, you could hear absolutely everything! We could hear Jonny and Rob and they were right down the hall! It was like living in a wooden shed, we had glass slatted windows which were missing slats, our floorboards were wonky and the shower was horrendous. However they did provide you with a massive mosquito net, so we survived without a bite!
We had dinner at the hostel which wasn’t bad and sat and talked for a bit. It then started to chuck it down with rain so we went to bed and this hostel
Dog followed us into the room! We thought ah he’s cute until he started scratching like crazy! He defiantly had fleas! So I put the bathmat outside our room and he slept on that all night! He did Howell for a bit but finally got to sleep!
