Herro!
Sorry we've not written in a while... we have had trouble pulling ourselves away from the golden sands and clear turquoise waters that are Sianoukville.
There's not much to write about Phnom Penh apart from the supermarket that sells western imports and a water park full of cholera. Our guesthouse was on the lake, with a whole cupboard full of DVD's and hammocks by the TV. Amongst others, we watched Team America and Holly and Shev it made us think of you.
After we realized we had spent way to much of our time watching DVD's and swimming with Cholera, we hopped on a bus to Kampot. Not much to do in Kampot, so we hired a moped (LOL!!!) and chavved it over to Kep, a small fishing villiage. The road only had small hole and medium hole, but we did have gears to contend with. We stopped at some caves on the way and met some crazy kids who showed us round. Sarah went off on a ramble for a bit to see if she could stand on any land mines. All she could find was a stripy (lengthways) black and white snake, which she stared at in horror for a bit before running away- then running back realizing she didnt get a photo- then running away again when she realized the snake was out of sight but probably still in the vicinity. We made it to Kep, where we swam fully clothed. We drove down a road on the way back to Kampot, where Sarah(driver) informed Zoe that we had "lost all power!!!". No need to worry mum(s)- the breaks still worked. Knowing nothing about mopeds and being stranded, all we could do was laugh. We established the bike had fuel, it just wouldn't start. We flagged down some non-english speaking randomers and they played around and fixed the bike for us.
We took a share taxi to Sianoukville from Kampot a few days ago. Share-taxis have the normal four passenger seats, but need a minimum of six passengers before they can leave. Zoe very much enjoyed her ride in the foot-well. Sianoukville is Cambodias main beach province, having 6 different beaches, all of which come complete with white sand, palm trees, turquoise waters and box jellyfish (theres not any box jellyfish but we still have immense paranoia). We've become very lasy as there is no need to ever get up off the beach when people are walking around selling fresh pineapples and cold beers. The 18th was Zoe's birthday and she would like to take this time to show her appreciation for the well wishing messages. We celebrated in style with a suprise beach party. This was complete with the burning of chairs in a fire on the beach, midnight swimming, a cake fight and the disappearance of Zoe's sandals (and a hangover).
We intend to continue our lazy-lifestyle, with perhaps an overnight stay on a small island untill the 23rd when we will head to Vietnam for Christmas.
We hope you are all enjoying your time at home for those of you who have returned from uni, and enjoying all your roast dinners. We can also feel the excitement for the John Cabot Celebration of Achievement. We are considering returning for it. Oh, and Zoe got into Leeds uni. so now shes well chuffed.
Off to fall in the sea now,
Sarah and Zoe xxxx
