What s great little place Mitchell was to visit! Great C/Park n thriving little town. We finally got to have our Hot Springs Spa, very decadent, might have washed off some of the red dust we have accumulated on our trip! We travelled 506 km in total yesterday through very dry countryside displaying many canvases along the way. The best part of yesterday was to see the lovely towns that we visited on our journey, in spite of the drought there was a real sense of pride n care in their towns! The drive from Undara to Hughenden was quite scenic, however the countryside was SO DRY! The poor farmers are dealing with so much with their stock n their land let alone the stress on their family's financial situation.... We stopped at several places of interest along the way, a couple of graves (one that was a mailman from the 1880's who was killed by some local Aborigines). Porcupine Gorge was also well worth a look, they call it Australia's mini Grand Canyon...

What a great 2 nights we have had at Undara Lava Lodge camping ground. It's a bit of an oasis in amongst the dry countryside surrounding it. The interest focus of the area are the lava tubes that are situated reasonably close to the Camp. They were created about 190000 years ago when a volcano erupted n sent lava streaming down the nearby creek beds. After a lovely stay at Mt Carbine (including sitting round the fire last night) we headed towards Mareeba where we visited the famous Coffee House which sold not only beautiful coffees n chocolates but also lots of local crafts.
