Saturday was Haley's 20th birthday! We got to Florence just in time for dinner. We had some delicious spaghetti, and pizza with red wine. Then we drank and went to the club. The club was a lot of fun but no one was there but our group. Still we had a blast!
The next morning in was back to the bus early for a walking tour of Florence. It was definitely pretty there but we didn't have enough time to fully enjoy it and get a vibe for the city. We saw the famous statue of david and the famous balcony where Hamlet was filmed. Brett, Haley and I got our first Italian lunch at a cute little restaurant. I ordered carbonara with out bacon and it tasted like the best mac and cheese I've ever had.
Then it was back to the bus for a walking tour in Rome. The tour was awesome and I loved the city. It had a friendly vibe like that in London but with all the history that Athens had. It was cool to have seen both the Greek Empire and also the Roman empire. We saw the Spanish steps, which are the longest and widest in Europe. We threw coins into the Trevi Fountain. 1 coin mean you'll return to Rome, 2 means you'll find love and 3 means you'll get married. We got some real gelato and then continued to the Pantheon, the original temple of Romans built in 27BC. Then to the Roman Forum where you could see the actual level of Rome back in the day with a bunch of really sweet ruins.
Next we went to the famous Colosseum! This was my favorite monument of Europe. It's where the gladiators fought each other, where they fought animals, and where animals fought each other. About a million men were killed there as well as about a million animals.
That night we all went right to bed. We left our campsite at 7am and went directly to Vatican city. We were in and out in about an hour. Honestly, I thought it was extremely boring. I was really disappointed by the sistine chapel. The ceilings and artwork was pretty but it was too crowded!
We did a little bit of shopping and ate some pizza then headed back to the campsite for some swimming and to say our goodbyes to the rest of our group.
Phrase of the day: Chio Bella = Hello beautiful
