Anyway, 6 hours later, at 8 am, I got off in Wellington. I was quite happy and awake so I went to the YHA, dropped off my big bag, got some breakfast and explored the harbour area of Wellington. To my honest great surprise I found myself really liking the city. I have heard many tales that it is boring and just a windy city but I actually really like it. The layout is nice, it's small but cosy and accessible and I just felt very calm and comfortable there. I walked up to the Botanic Gardens where there was a beautiful Rose Garden and some guys playing cricket and then I lay in the grass for a while. I finished my book, The Slap, and then walked up to the famous Wellington Cable Car, enjoyed the view of the cricketers and the city with the whole bay and then I took the cable car down to the main street. I went in search of a second hand bookshop where I, after a moment of hesitation, bought a battered and well used version of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Yes, for all of you who told me I have not lived as I have neither read nor seen the Lord of the Ring books or films, I am going to live now, I suppose. I have started the Fellowship of the Ring and am quite enjoying it, I must admit. Later that afternoon I lay in the grass by the water writing about Wellington and my other adventures. It was beautiful weather and not too cold, yeah, it was a good day. I had dinner with a Finnish guy in the hostel and chatted to my English and Swedish roommates in the dorm until I fell asleep with Lord of the Rings open beside my pillow.
