We arrived early morning after a 13 hour flight and feeling shattered. We caught the train into downtown San Fran which was crazy, people everywhere and heaps of homeless people.
We had no idea where to go so we got a cab from there to out Hostel. Great hostel by the way. Wicked place to meet people and they book really good tours from there. We paid $50 USD for a double room. Pretty expensive but it was great location.
After a classic bagel breakfast and me nearly cracking a raw egg over mine as I thought it was already boiled (I'm sure I would have not been the first, well I hope so..), we headed to the this free music festival to find out it was a hippie fest great for people watching though. After we ventured to Candlestick Park to watch the 49´s American football match.
It was crazy the stadium was massive and there were people everyone where. We finally got in got our beers and burger to find out seat so close to the front it was wicked. I don't even like football but Junior was in his element. They had the whole classic marching band, cheerleaders and fireworks.
After the match with the 1000´s of others we caught the bus hoping we would get close to our hostel. We found a Chinese restaurant that out taxi drive had said was apparently the best in San Fran so that was handy.
Headed back to the hostel and there were heaps of other travelers around so we bought some take aways and joined in. Turned out to be a fun night, good laughs.
23/08 we visited the Wharf which was really great heaps to see and do. We also did a tour to Alcatraz at night so that was really interesting and also nice to do a boat cruise.
24/08 We did a really bad free walking tour around the North Beach district in which the lady just took us to restuarnts and cafes she liked. Then hired bikes to "Bike that Bridge" it was the hottest day on record in San Fran at like 42 degrees. The locals thought we were crazy to be biking the Golden Gate Bridge. It was beautiful though so pretty and heaps of photos. Had a few drinks on the other side in Sausalto and then caught the ferry back. We had the famous clam chowder down at the wharf and then headed to the Castro and Mission area.
Mission area is full of street art and the Castro area is the gay area and it sure was we have never seen anything like this before. Awesome 2 areas though.
Had $1.50 taco night and beer Olympics back at hostel. Meet heaps of other travelers and played some classic american drinking games.
25/08 Today we went on a full day bus tour which was really good. Only like $35 USD I think and it was well worth it. Checked out all the famous spots Lombard Street, Muir Woods (saw a chipmunk), Twin Peaks which is a whole view of the city and then we went to the park where they filmed the start of the show Full House and saw the seven sisters houses.
At night we went on a really bad pub crawl that was set up by the hostel. Met Cassie and Tara from Melbs awesome chicks.
26/08 San Fran - Vegas AHHHH woke up a tiny bit late Today and got a taxi only to find out on the way to the airport the freeway was shut due to a 5 car pile up including a police motorbike. So the race was on. Great taxi drive and still got to the airport only 5 mins late. The taxi driver seemed to be stressing more than us due to the amount of smokes he had. Thank god the great American Airlines were also delayed half hour so we made it on time. Although we missed our connecting flight in LA and had to wait at the airport for five hours which wasn't too bad, Junior got to sit at the bar and watch basketball and I got a free spanish lesson from our Mexican barman.
