"It's time to get up the time is 7.30am, It's time to get up the time is 7.30am" we are again rudely awaken by my stupid alarm clock! We have another wonderful day at Fitness First! We arose after some serious snoozing and rush to get ready, it may be just another ordinary start to the day but today we are excited because after work we are off to Hamilton (Not Hamilton Island, but a little town about 2 hours out from Melbourne towards Adelaide). We are off to visit my Gran's youngest sister Phyllis and husband Ray, I believe they are my Great Aunt & Uncle but who cares they are family and more importantly family I havent seen since I was 5 years old.
The day passes like normal with our Team Meeting about the targets we need to achieve, we have learnt to agree and commit to the figures that are suggested immediately and then its back on to the phones with lots of "Urgency & Excitement about our awesome promotions" before popping into the shopping centre to grab more names & numbers to call promising FREE guest passes. Its all cool though as we do have an awesome team and we are like one big happy family. The day passes quickly and before we realise we only have 5 minutes before we must leave for our adventures to the countryside.
Now I would say we are experienced travellers, who should be able to navigate themselves around an English speaking country easily..... no adventures follows us everywhere. Now we had tried to start our trip being super efficient packing our bag the night before but panicking we were running late we jumped on the first bus, this would have been fine if the stupid bus driver had just open the doors immediately instead of allowing us to have to sprint to the train station only to watch our train pull away (I may now be a little more sympathetic to others next time..... but I do doubt it!). However we had left plenty of time, although once at the main train station we believed a silly nerdy guy on the platform we required only to realise with only 2 mins to go that we were on the wrong platform and had to run to the correct platform but luckily with seconds to spare we ran onto the train and finally relaxed! The rest of the journey was uneventful until we got closer and closer and I started to get nervous, but as soon as we arrived and stepped of that bus we were greeted with hugh hugs and showered with love that we were so happy. It felt a little bit like home already.
We drove home but being pitch black we couldnt really tell what it was like outside, we unpacked our things and spent hours just talking discussing our itinerary for the next three days the only main request is to see some true Australia this includes three main priorities KANGAROOS, KOALAS & BUSH. The house was just how we expected, full with family pictures that made it feel so homely.
The next day was great to wake up to breakfast prepared for us, we could have anything! We were being spoilt, we packed up a picnic and set off into the kind sunny weather. We were off to Mount Eccles an old extinct volcano which now consisted off a lake and lots of bush but most importantly a know koala (drop bears I am told by Aussies) hangout.
It was crazy we drove for nearly 2 hours which was nothing in their eyes but we thought it was ridiculous, back home we would moan if we drove anything further than 30 mins. It was beautiful though to be out in the countryside not a single high rise building in sight, the warmth from the sun shining on our backs. As we arrived and climbed out of the car it was stunning to see a lush green bush area, smell the clean fresh air and hear the sound of birds. It still wasnt what I expected from Australia, I thought it would be a baron dessert like area with a few trees but it looked a lot like home. Ray set off down the tracks desperately looking for Koalas, he didnt want to disappoint us and then came the cry "look over there!" YES finally there was no denying it we were in Australia, and perched in between the branches in the distance was are first grey furry koala. Hana and I being the crazy ones decided to trample through the bush to try and get a closer look and better picture but he was just too far and not playing nice keeping his back to us. This small sighting though filled us with so much excitement we were like big kids skipping around trying to be the next ones to see one. Hana & I continued to walk the whole rim, spotting another Koala that was much closer and after some clambering around we got extremely close and could see its cute face. Its was brilliant to be outside in the open away from all the hussle and bussel of city life. We were putting the worlds to right trying to make some sort of travel plan when ….... from nowhere little heads popped up from behind the bushes and we realised we were surrounded by a family of Kangaroos. Normally we would be super excited but Ray had told us that they had been know to attack people and gave nasty kicks and because we didnt want to startle them too much we tip toed round. Standing on the otherside we heard the familiar voices of Phyllis and Ray shouting and waving we waved back and continued our walk. We continued to spot Koalas each time never really sinking in that there they were just hanging out in the wild.
Back in the car we regrouped and decided to take our picnic to a little place called Tower Hill I believe another natural reserve know to have lots of Kangaroos that also once use to be a volcano, Australia appear to have several extinct volcanoes again something I didnt expect. It was again another long journey but so worth the trip as it was again beautiful and there were lots of Kangaroos just chilling out with us tourist. We must of looked so cute with are little table cloth and picnic all laid out, again we were spoilt with nice sandwiches and lots of little treats and Phyllis being still true English had brought a flask for tea!!! We went for a little walk, before jumping back into the car and heading off to the holiday beach town of Warrnambool. As we left the reserve we drove past a field with loads of Emus, being another true Aussie animal we felt we needed more photos so out we jumped, then all of a sudden Hana screamed and she notice that in the bush right beside her leg was only the second most deadliest snake in Australia. Silly girl nearly stepped on it while it basked in the sun, as she moved around to take a picture she nearly stepped on another one. Deciding that there was obviously a family inside the bush we would abandon the photo taking and continue our drive to the coast.
We headed to Thunder Point but being thankful it was a beautiful day it wasnt a rough sea so there wasnt much thunder. However it was gorgeous to look along the coast line, the sun glistening as the waves broke against the rocks. It was a shame we had to pay to visit what would have been a cool old model town of what the Australia port would have been like but we decided that ice creams were calling us instead. After a busy day we return home, I dont how Phylis did it both Hana & I were so exhausted we fell fast asleep for the whole journey back. While Ray, Hana & I played on the Wii embarrassingly being beaten repeatedly by both Phyllis & Ray and not even by a small margin! Again dinner was awesome you soon remember things you forget and miss from home and home cooking is one, not having a meal that consists of either pasta or rice is now a rarity for our cooking. It was also a big delight to be treated to puddings every night. For the rest of the night we watched a movie and played some more Wii, our skills not improving.
The next day we awoke and the clouds had drifted over but it was still dry so we continued our plans to venture to the popular holiday retreat 'The Grampians' which are a group of mountains that separate the coast from the main land. It was a long drive and we attempted to stop to visit a prison that was unfortunately closed, so we I mean Phyllis shouldered on. We arrived to this little tiny mountain retreat that was surrounded by forest. We went for a drive to find more Kangaroos before settling for a little place to have our picnic, although it was a little chilly so we had to be quick but Aunty Phyllis had made a scrummy chocolate cake. Warming back up in the car we went on the search for the waterfall, Ray didnt particular like this bit as he doesnt like the windy roads with the big drops on his side. We decided to stop off at the view point called 'the balconies', Hana & I went for a walk and we made it to the main view point and it was like being on the edge of the mountain the view was breathe taking. We drove a little further down the road to the walk way to the 'McKenzie Falls', being the spring chickens we are we set off on the track to the bottom of the falls. We were slightly concerned as the people returning from the walk had some serious red faces and many were panting, we werent up for a hike!! We soon realised why, there were only a few hundred steps!! But seeing we had come this far and we do like waterfalls so we continued on the path and were grateful we did. It was spectacular and so tranquil. The climb back was as we thought, and im sure we gave the others the scared impression we first got too. Bless Phyllis and Ray had treated themselves to soup while we had been off exploring and were already for the trip back, but again before we had travelled more than a few miles Hana & I were fast asleep.
That night we enjoyed some more yummy dinner with puddings and chatted over the Wii and movies. However the fresh clean air has given Hana & I colds so we were early to bed.
The weather has taken a turn for the worse today but that isnt going to stop us true Brits and after a late breakfast we set off to see more waterfalls, hoping that with the increased rainfall the waterfalls will be full. They are close to Hamilton and are actually only a small car journey. We pull up in this remote area and go for a short walk, we have remembered the camera today so we take some snaps for the holiday files. On the way home we take a little detour and take Phyllis and Ray for a hot chocolate and cake in a little coffee house just to say a big thank you for everything they have done for us. It isnt enough to say how grateful we are for the last three days, it has been a taste of home and been a great relaxing time full with all we had hoped for but the best was still to come.
As a farewell, Phyllis had planned the best treat a good old traditional Sunday roast dinner with Yorkshire puds!!! It was a brilliant way to end a perfect weekend. It was sad having to pack up our bags, and we didnt really enjoy the trip to the bus station neither one of us wanted to say goodbye, but we had to return to our little life in Melbourne. There were big squiggie hugs and we were showered with kisses and be boarded the bus, but as the bus driver was messing around we both decided to run off quickly for just one more quick goodbye. It was by far one of our hardest goodbyes and we both decided that we were definitely going to stick around a little longer so we could visit again. It was so perfect just what we needed.
The trip home was a long and tiring one, no idea why we were so tired we hadnt done much but maybe doing nothing is hard work. Plus we both knew that as soon as we returned we had the dreaded washing to do. Which came far too quickly and although we wanted our bed we packed our stuff together and did our laundry. We have it down to a tea now though, we pop all our clothes in one and wonder off to do the weekly shop im sure one day we will be those people who return to find a homeless person as stolen them. We didnt fold the clothes we just rushed home for an early night to be refreshed for work.
Just one last thing........
