Elephant Camp
The world is my school today my classroom is at an Elephant Camp in the middle of the Thai Jungle.
Today I get to ride elephants. First we go to see the Hill Tribe people with the rings around their necks. They did this so back in the day so the tigers couldn't kill them by biting their necks. It also pushes their shoulders down making their neck longer. This is no necklace! Every year they have been alive they, have one ring added until they are a certain age.
After we saw the tall necked Thai Hill Tribe people we went to the elephant camp. When we arrived we got clothes to put on so we wouldn't get dirty, then to our elephants. I went on with Dad. We said the magic words and the elephant kneeled down for us to get on. Once we got on Dad sat on the neck and I sat on in the middle and held on to a rope. There was no saddle, we went bareback. We start by going up hill which is pretty easy but whatever you go up you have to go down, and that's the hard part.
It was the scariest when we got out of the jungle and rode right next to the road, but once we got back off the road we got in the river to give the elephants a bath. That was my favorite! The water was soooo refreshing and I bet it felt really nice to the elephant to lay in the water while we splashed them. They literally sat down for us to get off and then laid on one side as we splashed them as hard as we could. I was a little upset we didn't get to give them a mud spa!
Afterwards we got to see the cutest of them all, an 8 month old elephant! When we first saw it, it's leg was stuck in a fence, but then got out of the fence and started throwing dirt on himself. He was definitely an elephant but was acting just like an 8 year old after demolishing a Hershey's bar.
Once we finished watching this cutey we went to quickly shower off, and I got the creeps when I saw a frog jump out of the drain! It scared me so much!
Fun in the Sun! I would definitely do that again, I loved it! The people there were so nice, but I don't think the elephants liked having people on their back walking through the jungle. The elephants definitely liked getting bathed!

Aunt DeeAnn Elephant Camp sounds just awesome -- and to think that my big plan for today is to watch your cousins play soccer, basketball and lacrosse -- not that I don't just love watching Spencer and Robbie play their sports:) We love you all and are so happy that your are having this amazing trip XOXO
