Tomb Raider Temple/ Ta Prohn Temple
The world is my school today my classroom is, at another awesome temple where the movie Tomb Raider was filmed.
Yesterday I watched the movie Tomb Raider; we watched it because it was filmed at the temple that we were going to see today. It was an awesome movie and I can't wait to see the actual temple. This temple was abandoned in the fall of the 17th century and was founded again 45 years ago. In the years that it was abandoned many trees grew on top of the temple, some of these very big.
We just arrived at the temple. It is so cool. If you look at the doorways you can see tree trunks that literally grew around the doorway. If you look at one wall you can actually see where a tree grew on the wall and over all the carvings. The cool thing about this wall is that the tree grew around one part of the carving, the Aspara dancers face. When we were walking down the hallway in the temple I kept on turning around and pretending that I was Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) from Tomb Raider.
It is over 1,000 years old and is still standing in a spectacular way, after all these years and no cement to hold the bricks together and very heavy trees growing on top. It is sad that some parts crumbled.
It was an awesome temple to film a movie!

P.S. This amazing site was put on the World Heritage list by UNESCO in 1992.

Aunt Amy The site of Tomb Raider - how cool!! Justin just watched some of that recently with uncle Rick - now one of both of their favorite movies!! I can picture you running around like Lora Croft too :) And I liked learning about Ankor Wat from you too. To me, these places were just seen in movies or mentioned in a song, but it's always interesting to hear what they are really about. The history of the use of sacrifices is always impressive and scary, no matter what religion they are from. And the architecture of things made out of massively heavy stones and rocks is just amazing, especially when done in ancient times!! Lots of love, AA
